Prince Henrik dead at 83

Royal Consort Prince Henrik, the husband of Queen Margrethe, died on Tuesday night, 13 February 2018, at the age of 83. Flags throughout Denmark were lowered to half-mast and a month of national mourning was declared during which time the Royals will wear dark clothing and not participate in social events. As a member of Denmark’s royal family, he held honorary ranks of general in the Danish army and air force, and was an admiral in the navy. Prince Henrik is survived by his wife, sons Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and eight grandchildren. The coffin of Prince Henrik, draped in the ‘Dannebrog’, will go on public display from Saturday in the chapel of the Christiansborg, home of parliament, until a funeral on Tuesday, 20, February 2018, for family and friends only, in accordance with his own wishes. The palace has said it will respect Henrik’s wish to be cremated, with half his ashes to be spread over Danish seas and the other half buried in the royal family’s private garden at Fredensborg Palace.
